The Detroit Institute of Arts is one of the largest art museums in the country, housing a permanent collection of more than 65,000 works including Diego Rivera's famous Detroit Industry Murals. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with extended Friday hours until 10 p.m. General admission is $14 for adults, $9 for children 6–17, and free for Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb County residents.
For school field trips and group visits, the DIA has a dedicated group entrance on John R Street with a designated bus unloading zone — school groups should reserve visits at least four weeks in advance through the DIA's education office. Bus staging after unloading is available in the surface lot east of the building on John R Street. The museum's Friday evening programming and seasonal special exhibitions frequently sell out, so verify availability before your visit at the DIA website.
